FAQs

  • Yes & no - the focus in somatic coaching & psychomotor therapy is not per se, trauma, but we will work intensely with your internal landscape of emotions & somatic experiences, therefore likely working through hurts, struggles & pain points from the past. AKA we work with little t traumas as opposed to big T traumas.

If you struggle immensely with traumas from the past, I can highly recommend EMDR therapy & somatic therapy - they are, in my opinion, some of the best ways you can work to integrate your trauma.

Psychomotor therapy is more focused on your body & calibrating regulatory skills & awareness.

The coaching I do is very much future focused - we take where you’re at & figure out how we can get to where you want to be. Doing both coaching & therapy alongside each other is SO valuable.

Personally, I’ve healed a lot of my trauma via coaching - but it is a more long-sighted approach & for that reason - if you have active trauma you are working through - I will always recommend you also work with a therapist, or I may refer you out to a professional within this field who is better suited to help your needs & desires.

  • I’ve personally dealt with mental health issues & mental illness myself & in my environment & am a firm believer in open, safe & shame-free spaces for people to explore, delve into, understand & integrate whatever is present in their internal systems. That being said - self-responsibility & acknowledgment that you may need extra support or even different support from what I can offer you - is also neccessary. As mentioned in my FAQ around trauma - I do work directly with integrating smaller traumas - if you have severe trauma, are actively triggered, or in danger of being re-traumatized, have conditions such as bipolar disorder, scizophrenia, personality disorders, eating disorders - I may refer you to someone who is better suited to work with you - to give you the best opportunity to heal for you.

  • I use a client-centred, somatic-led, inclusive & pleasure-centred approach in supporting individuals, couples and groups to become more aware of their bodies, sex and sexuality. Informed by embodiment, tantra, mindfulness and neuroscience, this comprehensive support will allow you to explore your potential with an approach that is tailored and most suited to you. All done in an open and safe space with the opportunity to ask, share, discuss, feel and relate.

  • I work with somatic sensations throughout coaching sessions. If you have never done embodiment work before - it can feel very strange & unusual because of how we live in society - often numbed to the body & minds language. A book that I can highly recommend as you dive into this work & should you choose to work with me is ‘The body keeps the score’ by Bessel van der Kolk.

  • I offer an inclusive and judgment-free space for people of all gender, orientation and identity. I welcome people of all relationship choices and stages, as I educate, empower, support and coach on a vast range of sexual wellbeing topics. If I feel like I won’t be able to help you to the best of my abilities - I may refer you out, but it will always be a conversation we can have.

  • I work with all people regardless of their relationship choice or level of experience. The sessions will be useful for anyone who is committed, curious and interested.

  • All of my sessions are done online. Sessions are clothes on hands-off, I do not touch clients. Practices involving self-pleasuring will be assigned as homework, with videos off or as discussed & agreed with clients prior to.

  • Yes! But only the fun kind in the form of pleasure practices - the intention is to integrate, explore, understand and / or be curious about pleasure rather than set you "work" that isn't useful to you.

  • Grounding, safety and agency are fundamental to my work. Each session is tailored to you and how you are showing up on the day. It is natural to feel uncomfortable, awkward, anxious or nervous at first as speaking about sex is like learning a knew language. You may feel uncomfortable and that's ok! You will not be pushed beyond your boundaries. Once the ball is rolling and the connection is made the burden can feel a lot lighter – your feelings are SO normal.

  • This depends on where you're at when you begin and why you're investing in sessions. This work doesn't happen over night, it is a marathon, not a sprint when it comes to working with trauma.

  • This depends on your schedule and mine, you may book in weekly - which I highly recommend, but if that doesn’t support you or work with your schedule - we can work around that.

  • I offer a limited amount of scholarships for BIPOC & students who are experiencing financial struggles. If this is the case for you - reach out to me via winona@winonamerstrand.com to apply.

Apart from this - I also offer a single coaching package for free annually (sometimes bi-annually) in the form of a raffle - once you sign up for my newsletter - you will automatically be entered into this competition.
